A celebration as important as the approval of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child has literally transformed FB. To remember thousands of people have replaced the image of the profile on the popular social network with that of a cartoon. One way to not forget? Maybe. However, I can not delegate its commitment to protect the weak - in this case children - to simply change an image. Not to break the eggs in the basket, but I think the initiative of unprecedented hypocrisy. A campaign is so hypocritical that in a few minutes showed its weakness is transformed into a memorial to the initials of the cartoons. Beautiful moments of nostalgia, for heaven's sake. But the rights of children even the shadow. In my view, the incident highlights many aspects. The first is the induscutibile media power of the carrier that launches the message (cinema, television, video games, websites, etc.).. The second thing is the emotional ease with which we can carry us by the mass media. We do this instinctively, without stopping to think. Can we remember a convention as important as that of November 20, 1989 only if they ask us to change the image of our profile with that of a cartoon. Proof that nowadays everything is serious only if it becomes the game, if you enjoy and you do not bored.
But why all this (my) ado about nothing? Because the incident is symptomatic of how we are able to get passionate about an issue only if it is proposed to us with a lot of publicity and emotion. Even for just a moment. Then, back to normal. The result? Nobody knows what that convention, and it enshrines the rights have a child. Many and many of those who have changed the image of your profile will have fucked up their children in front of the TV or playstation for entire afternoons, by denying that several articles of the paper.
Internet, FB or other media can be powerful in fact the opposite effect of making us play as a pretext for using huge rubbish particularly noble. At this point, I wonder if you can eliminate poverty even writing an article on a blog. I wonder if you can fight child abuse by posting links on FB. If you can fight against the Mafia simply setting the picture as a picture of Paolo Borsellino profile on the social network of turn. I say no. Those on the Web are not tangible and concrete actions, and if you allow me, the reality is still done by the real and concrete gestures. Staying at home behind a screen is not a sign of action.
conclude citing Article 23 of the Convention:
children mentally or physically disabled should enjoy a full and decent life, in conditions which ensure dignity, promote self-reliance and facilitate their active participation in the life community
Well, someone (including me) could, in these days, launching a petition against the terrible carnage of establishing separate classes for children with disabilities proposed by the League in Udine. A fact that denies that Article 23 of the Charter referred to above. And yet, with such an initiative as we would change the image of our Facebook profile?
